Biography: Rita Whitaker was educated at Sion Convent in Worthing, Sussex. She attended Worthing Art College before going to Regent Street Polytechnic, studying illustration under Stuart Tresilian.
After leaving college, she worked for jewellers in London and then returned to Sussex to teach art. Later she took up painting miniatures in a style of enamelling all of her own.
She became a member of the Royal Miniature Society and won the Fairman Award.
She had works accepted by the Royal Academy and exhibited at the Medici Society who purchased many of her paintings for cards. She is a member of the Hilliard Society and has exhibited at the Llewellyn Alexander Gallery where she was awarded the Top Masters Award and various other awards.
In the United States she has won awards and is a member of the Miniature Art Society of Florida, The Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers Society of Washington, DC and the Miniature Artists of America.
